Drishat Shalom from Rome...

Shavua Tov! This week -

Today, Sunday, 29 November On this day, 68 years ago, people around the world gathered together awaiting the monumental announcement to come. On November 29, 1947, a centuries-long dreamwas realized. The UN General Assembly voted in favor of Resolution 181, adopting the plan for the partition of Palestine into 2 states: A Jewish State and an Arab State. The Jewish delegation accepted the establishment of two states, the Arab States rejected it. 6 months later, the Jewish State was established. Kaf"Tet November

Barukh Dayan HaEmet - Ezra Yehiel z"l

Barukh Dayan HaEmet

Along with all of Am Yisrael we mourn the heartbreaking loss of
Azra Yehiel - עזרא יחיאל - z"l
son of Ruth and Ari Schwartz, who was murdered in a terrorist attack in Israel Thursday along with Rav Ya'akov Don of Alon Sh'vut and Shadi Orfa of Hevron.

Many knew Ezra and many of us who did not know him feel the pain of this tragedy deeply.
The funeral will take place Sunday at noon, Eastern Standard Time,
at Temple Sinai, 25 Canton St., Sharon, Mass.
The live stream link for the funeral is: https://livestream.com/accounts/16178538/ezra

From SAR High School
Many have asked how they can show support to the Schwartz family at this time. For those who would like to show support by giving tzedakah, the family has identified the following four institutions that Ezra was fortunate to attend and that helped to form him into the beautiful young man that he was.

They are:
The Striar Hebrew Academy of Sharon, MA
The Maimonides School in Brookline, MA
Yeshivat Ashreinu in Bet Shemesh, Israel
Camp Yavneh in Northwood, NH.

For those who wish to send letters of condolence to the family, correspondence may be sent to ruthsschwartz@gmail.com.

May the Family be comforted from the Heaven

Ezra z"l was a recent graduate of the Maimonides School in Brookline, MA, and a counselor at Camp Yavneh. Ezra was spending his gap year in Israel, reportedly studying at Yeshivat Ashreinu in Beit Shemesh.

HIR led Vigil for Paris Victims

Reported in the Riverdale Press:
Locals hold vigil for Paris after attacks
Religious leaders and local elected officials led about 150 residents in a vigil at the Riverdale Monument this morning to show solidarity with Paris after terrorists there killed at least 129 people and wounded many others on Friday.
Rabbis from the Hebrew Institute of Riverdale (HIR), which organized the event, gave speeches and led sign-carrying attendees in singing the U.S., French and Israeli national anthems while cars circled the monument, some of them honking in support.
Several Riverdale residents originally from France sing the French national anthem, 'La Marseillaise,' at the rally.
“We are here because if there is one human being in the world who was injured, who was wounded, who was murdered, because of who he or she is and nothing more, then we have all been wounded. We have all been injured. We have all been murdered,” said Rabbi Avi Weiss, the longtime leader of HIR. “We stand with Paris.”
Riverdale residents originally from France also addressed the group standing beneath the tall monument, located at the intersection of Riverdale Avenue and West 239th Street.
“This disaster which occurred in my country is a mini 9/11,” said Stephanie Zvi, who comes from Lyon.
Our friend Dan Sebbah, a member of  Congregation Beth Aharonsaid a friend of his nephew’s was killed in a restaurant during Friday’s attacks, in which assailants targeted a soccer stadium, restaurants and a concert hall.
“It’s very sad. I’m scared — it’s kind of history coming back,” said our friend Cyril Benichou, also member of Congregation Beth Aharon, “Maybe right-wing groups and political parties will take advantage of this situation and we may have a new Hitler coming in Europe.”
“We are all with you here in New York,” he went on to say in French, addressing people in Paris. “We support your efforts and we are wholeheartedly with you.”

Condolences to the people of France

Our condolences to the people of France on the murder of 129 innocent lives.
We pray for refuaa shelema to the injured.

חג סיגד שמח לאחינו האתיופים. Happy Sigd to all Ethiopian Jews

Sigd is an Amharic word meaning "prostration" or "worship" and is the commonly used name for a holiday celebrated by the Ethiopian Jewish community on the 29th of the Hebrew month of Cheshvan.
This date is exactly 50 days after Yom Kippur, usually falling out in late October or November, and according to Ethiopian Jewish tradition is also the date that G-d first revealed himself to Moses.
In 2008 Sigd became a national holiday in Israel.
This year Sigd begins at sundown tomorrow, Tuesday; 29 Heshvan - 10 November
